Birds, Bees and Butterflys

Did you know that the bee and butterfly decline has been linked to proboscis paralyzing neonicotinoids – a class of chemicals which act on the central nervous systems of insects? A plant systemically treat-ed with “imidicloprid” (a neonicotinoid) will take the neonicotinoid into the flower nectar. When a bee or butterfly visit this plant it will have a neurological effect on their tongues so they cannot eat and they will slowly starve to death. Although this chemical is being phased out it is added to many pesticides currently on the market. Please consider checking the labels on any pesticides you currently have on hand or purchase in the near future.
